Retaining Walls

Retaining Walls for Joplin-Area Homes

Retaining walls fail for a handful of predictable reasons: no compacted base, no drainage behind the wall, the wrong backfill, or a wall that is simply too tall for how it was built. Clay soil holds water, and water behind a wall is weight the wall was never designed for.

We build every wall on a compacted gravel leveling pad, with drain pipe and clean drainage stone behind the block, and caps glued down to finish it. Where the yard needs a way through, we build the steps into the wall itself, like the brick-and-stone stairs on the project above.

Serving: Joplin, Webb City, Carthage, Carl Junction, Neosho, Duenweg and the Four State Area of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. See all service areas.

What customers say

  • Needed my retaining wall replaced. Spoke with Chris and he came right out. Did an absolutely amazing job, talked me through the process and had excellent communication with me. He had ideas of how to update the stairs and provided options. This was a great experience and the wall and stairs never looked better. For a reasonable price and the peace of mind of someone that keeps you in the loop of what they are doing, there is no better.

FAQ

Retaining Walls: Common Questions

Have a question that is not here? Call (417) 438-4330.

How tall can a retaining wall be?

Shorter landscape walls can usually be built without special design. Taller walls, walls holding back a driveway or structure, and walls on steep slopes often need geogrid reinforcement or an engineered design, and may need a permit. We will tell you up front what your wall requires.

Why does drainage matter so much?

Water-saturated soil pushes much harder on a wall than dry soil. Drain pipe and clean stone behind the wall give that water a way out, which is the single biggest factor in how long a wall lasts.

Can you fix my leaning wall instead of replacing it?

Sometimes a section can be taken down and rebuilt with proper base and drainage. If the whole wall was built wrong, rebuilding it is usually the better long-term value. We will show you what we find.
